New Technology Makes the Drill Less Scary

When you ask people why they don’t like going to the dentist, one answer keeps coming up over and over again: the drill. This tiny device, integral to helping fill cavities and create healthier teeth, causes many patients’ knees to tremble at the mere thought of it. In fairness, the high-pitched whine of the machine can be a bit frightening and it’s not exactly something that’s associated with good feelings and a pain-free experience.

New technology may be changing all that though, as researchers in London have devised a device which they say effectively blocks out the sounds of the dental drill as well as suction devices. According to reports, the device can plug into the headphone jack of most music players, and will effectively cancel out the frequencies of dental devices. All the while, patients can still listen to their music, as well as be able to hear the doctor and technicians as they give instructions. The technology is akin to that of noise-canceling headphones but tuned so that it only blocks out the frequency of the drill and other sounds sometimes considered unpleasant.

Though this new wonder device is promising, unfortunately, we don’t yet know when it will make its grand dental debut. The researchers are still in the process of finding investors in the hopes of bringing it to market, so it may still be little ways off. In the meantime, we’ll do everything we can to make your visits as comfortable and pleasant as possible. We use the newest, most cutting-edge dental technology available to make sure your teeth get the best possible care in the most pain-free way possible.
