What Are Dental Emergencies?

Dental emergencies are potentially life threatening and require immediate treatment. Some signs that can appear in dental emergencies are:

  • Uncontrollable bleeding
  • Tissue bacteria that can compromise the patient’s airway
  • Trauma involving facial bones

If you experience any of these contact Frisco's Dentists today.

Is a broken dental crown or filling an emergency?

While a broken dental crown or filling may not be an immediate emergency, it requires prompt attention. Avoid chewing on the affected side to prevent further damage and discomfort. Contact our Frisco emergency dentist as soon as possible for evaluation and repair. Swift action can help prevent complications and ensure the continued effectiveness of the dental restoration.

What to Do in a Dental Emergency

For the best results in an emergency situation, it’s important you act quickly and calmly. This is often easier said than done, especially in cases of accidents or blunt trauma, but thinking clearly can help your dentist minimize the damage by providing him what he needs to perform repairs or treatment.

What to do if you’ve had a tooth knocked out

First, try to find the tooth. If you can find it, hold it by the tip to avoid damaging the root. Gently rinse it clean with water if the root appears dirty, but don’t touch the root or physically remove anything from it that doesn’t come off with a gentle rinse. To preserve it until you can see Dr. Neal, try to push the tooth back into place. If this doesn’t work or won’t stay put, store the tooth in milk, saliva, or warm salt water. Once you’ve secured or stored the missing tooth, call our office immediately.

What to do if you’ve experienced blunt trauma without losing a tooth or the onset of a toothache with extreme pain

Apply a cold compress or take anti-inflammatory medication. If you chip a tooth and are able to find the chip, it can be stored in milk, saliva, or warm salt water, just like a missing tooth. Dental pain that comes and goes continually or lasts longer than a few minutes may indicate a problem that requires immediate attention. When in doubt, call us.

How We Can Help

We’ll do our best to see you as soon as possible because we know that the sooner you receive professional treatment, the easier and less expensive the fix may be. For example, it could mean the difference between a simple repair or bond versus a full extraction and implant.
